Cheesy onion Bisquick bread squares
Here's another simply amazing bread recipe for you guys. These bread squares can be served as a side dish with pizza or spaghetti, with any other Italian cuisine, or just by themselves with your favorite dipping sauce. Today I am using shredded mozzarella cheese, but you can use any type of cheese that you desire to create this delicious recipe. Be creative!
Ingredients:
1 cup of the original Bisquick mix
1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt
7 tablespoons of warm water
1 cup of your preferred shredded cheese
2 tablespoons of dried onions, onion powder, or fresh chives (finely chopped)
6 tablespoons of melted butter
Instructions:
In a bowl, add 1 cup of the original Bisquick mix, 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt, and 7 tablespoons of warm water together. Bring the ingredients together. Then allow the dough to rest for 30 minutes.
Add 2 tablespoons of dried onions, onion powder, or fresh chives (finely chopped) to a separate bowl. Then add 1 cup of your preferred shredded cheese and stir. Set aside.
Next, roll the dough out thinly on a floured surface. Then sprinkle the cheese and onion mixture over the top of the dough. Now slowly roll your rolling pin over the cheese mixture one time with a little bit of pressure. (I also decided to sprinkle more seasoning salt over the filling.)
Fold the ends of the dough in half, overlapping (kind of like you'd do when making a burrito). Then roll the dough out thinly, lengthwise. Fold the ends of the dough to overlap, and roll the dough out lengthwise once again. You're going to repeat these steps six times, but the last time you'll need to roll the dough out into a square shape.
Slice the dough into four equal square-shaped pieces. Then brush the dough with melted butter.
Over medium-low heat, add a couple of heaping tablespoons of the melted butter or canola oil to a large cast iron skillet. Allow the butter or oil to get hot. Now transfer the prepared dough to the hot skillet. I cooked two at a time in the skillet together. Add additional oil only when and if it's needed. You only need enough oil in the skillet to cover the bottom layer of your bread. The bread should not be completely covered with it.
Allow the bread to brown on the bottom side, then flip it over and brown the other side.
Serve your cheesy onion bread with pizza sauce, cheese sauce, or butter sauce, and enjoy!
