Buttered Skillet Biscuits

Buttered Skillet Biscuits Today, I want to share another delicious biscuit recipe that you'll only need 4 ingredients for (cooking oil is included because you'll need about a 1/2 cup for your skillet). This is one of my favorite, no-fail biscuit recipes. The biscuits always rise, and they always taste so good. Ingredients: 3 cups of self-rising flour 1 cup of warm water 1/2 cup of softened butter 1/2 cup of canola oil Instructions: In a bowl, add 3 cups of self-rising flour and 1/2 cup of softened butter. Cut the butter into the flour with a fork or pastry cutter. Then add 1 cup of warm water. Mix just until the dough is well combined.   Now, allow the dough to rest for 20 to 30 minutes. After waiting, you'll see that the dough changes in form and almost doubles. (You don't want to skip doing this step.)   Form the dough into the size that you prefer. I gather enough to cover the palm of my open hand, then I roll it between both the palms of my hands to shape the dough....

Homemade buttermilk sunshine biscuits

Homemade buttermilk sunshine biscuits If you enjoy bread, today I am preparing my homemade buttermilk sunshine biscuits. These biscuits have nice, buttery flavored layers and a browned crunchy crust. To enhance the crust, I brush the tops of the dough with extra buttermilk before baking, then while the biscuits are baking, I brush the tops with melted butter to brown them. Plus, during the last few minutes of baking, I flip the biscuits over to brush the bottoms with extra melted butter. This is what creates the golden sunshine color on the outside of their crusts. Ingredients: 2-½ cups of self-rising flour, extra flour to roll the biscuits dough out 8-10 tablespoons of butter, softened 1 cup of buttermilk, plus three tablespoons to brush over the tops of your biscuit dough 2 tablespoons of melted butter, to brush over the tops of your biscuits when browning them Instructions: In a bowl, add the self-rising flour and softened butter together. You can use a food processor or cut the but...

Small batch biscuits

Small batch biscuits Today, I thought that I would make breakfast biscuits for two because there are only two people in my household. Although my recipe makes four biscuits, one biscuit that's 2-1/2 inches in diameter is an actual serving size. My husband always wants more than one biscuit. So this is the reason why I make four instead of two. If you'd like to make only two biscuits, reduce the ingredients by half. There are around 212 calories in one 2-1/2-inch-diameter biscuit. This calorie count does not include the extra calories when butter, honey, jam, sausage, eggs, bacon, or cheese are added to the meal. Ingredients: 2-1/2 cups of self-rising flour 6 tablespoons of butter 1 cup of water or milk Instructions: In a large bowl with a nice flat bottom, add all the self-rising flour and the butter. Cut the butter into the flour using a large fork. Pour the water or milk into the mixture and stir until the dough forms a ball. If needed, knead the dough four to six times with ...

Cocoa cookie biscuits

Cocoa cookie biscuits Cocoa cookie biscuits are a basic chocolate cookie with zero frills. They're simple to make, but extremely delicious when prepared with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. When sandwiched together with peanut butter in the center, they are transformed into an undeniable yummy snack. You may even want to make sure you have a glass of milk on hand to do a bit of cookie dunking! Ingredients: 1 large egg ¼ cup cocoa powder, sifted 1 cup of self-rising flour, sifted ¼ cup white granulated Splenda, or sugar ½ cup of butter, softened 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract Instructions: Lightly butter a cookie sheet; set it aside. In a bowl, combine the egg, Splenda, or sugar, butter, and the pure vanilla extract; mix thoroughly until creamy. Now, add the cocoa powder and the flour in, mix well until fully incorporated.  At this point, I use my hands to dive into the bowl of dough. You can use a mixer with a dough hook, or transfer the dough to a food processor, if that...

Sausage in a Bisquick blanket

Sausage in a Bisquick blanket Today, I am making piggies wrapped in a blanket with Bisquick biscuits and cooked sausage links. Piggies in a blanket is not a new concept, but it is still a very delicious way to make breakfast meals different. Ingredients: 6 sausage links, cooked separately, then halved 2 cups of Bisquick ½ cup of milk 4-6 tablespoons of softened butter Note: to soften ths butter, just lay it out on the counter ahead of time. Instructions: First, cook the sausage links in a skillet on medium heat. Cook the sausage until it is browned and completely done. Set aside. (Since I made smaller sized biscuits, I cut my sausage links in half.) Now, add the Bisquick and butter together. Using a fork, combine the butter well with the Bisquick. Then add the milk a little at a time; do not add it all in at once because you may not need all of it. (Sometimes I do need a half cup of milk and sometimes I don't. I am unsure why that happens. The dough needs to be drier for this recip...

Cherokee Indian fried bread

Cherokee Indian fried bread This morning, I felt like going back to my roots and making homemade Cherokee fried bread. When I was a little girl, my great-grandmother (who was Cherokee Indian) taught me how to make simple, but oh so delicious Cherokee fried bread, while she'd tell me about the hardships my ancestors went through while walking the Trail of Tears (American Indian removal that began in 1831, ended in 1850). Many American Indians suffered from hunger, disease, and brutality. The Tribes were given minimum government provisions (white flour, salt, and lard) and they had to learn how to make the most from what they were given, while rationing the provisions to survive. I was told that it was during this gut wrenching journey that my Cherokee ancestors learned how to make fried bread. It's not considered being the healthiest bread ever made, but it is a traditional survival bread recipe that dates back to the Trail of Tears. Traditionally, great-grandma used 3 cups of a...
