Country Apple Pie

Country Apple Pie

Nothing is more American than a delicious, homemade country apple pie; it's the perfect pie to create for the holidays or any other time. With its yummy, flaky crust, tender-sweet apples, and delightful hint of cinnamon, it's a perfect example of mouth-watering scrumptiousness!

Ingredients:

  • 9 large apples, peeled or unpeeled, sliced or diced

  • 1/2 cup of Splenda, or sugar

  • 1/4 cup of self-rising flour

  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

  • 2 tablespoons of butter, cut into small pieces, plus about a tablespoon of melted butter to be brushed over the top pie crust

  • You'll need 2 sheets of prepared pie dough.

Instructions:

In a bowl, add the prepared apples, 1/2 cup of Splenda or sugar, 1/4 cup of self-rising flour, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix well.

Add the apple filling to a prepared pie crust, and randomly lay the butter pieces over the filling. You can get all my pie crust recipes here at Newsbreak. (If you're interested, I also have numerous holiday recipes in older posts too.)

On a floured surface, roll out the remaining disk of dough into a 13-inch round. Carefully lay the dough over the filling, fold the overhanging dough under the overhang from the bottom crust, and press the edges of the crust together to form a seal. Cut a few 1-inch slits in the top crust (to release the steam). Brush the top pie crust with melted butter.

Place the pan on a baking sheet to help in case there's any spillover. Bake at 350 degrees for about 55 minutes, until the crust is golden brown. Rotate your pie midway through baking so that it will cook evenly. Once it's baked, transfer it to a cooling rack and let it cool.

Slice and enjoy!
