Surviving a Winter Snow Storm in 2025: Stay Safe and Warm with Homemade Comfort Food

When a winter snow storm hits, it's important to stay safe and warm. One way to do that is by preparing homemade comfort food like bread, beans, and stew. Not only will these dishes keep you full and satisfied, but they will also help warm you up from the inside out. Below are the full recipes for each dish.




Homemade Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 packet of active dry yeast

  • 1 cup of warm water

  • 1 tablespoon of Splenda or sugar

  • Season with 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt.

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water, granulated Splenda or sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add the flour and seasoning salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.

  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour.

  4. Shape the dough into a loaf and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  5. Bake at 375-degrees for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.





Pot of Beans

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of dried beans (any variety)

  • 6 cups water

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • Season with seasoning salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the beans and soak them in water overnight.

  2. Drain the beans and place them in a pot with 6 cups of water.

  3. Add the onion, garlic, and salt to the pot.

  4. Simmer on low heat for 2 to 3 hours, or until the beans are tender.

  5. Season with seasoning salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.





Homemade Stew

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of stew meat

  • 4 cups of beef broth

  • 2 carrots, chopped

  • 2 potatoes, diced

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt

  • A pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Brown the stew meat in a pot over medium heat.

  2. Add the beef broth, carrots, potatoes, onion, and salt to the pot.

  3. Simmer on low heat for 1-2 hours, or until the meat is tender.

  4. Adjust seasoning with seasoning salt and freshly ground black pepper as needed.
