Homemade flour tortillas

Homemade flour tortillas Save money and enjoy making homemade soft-shell flour tortillas at home, using only three ingredients. With my recipe, you can make various sized flour tortillas to make street tacos, regular tacos, taco bowls, Mexican pizza, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, etc.. The recipe is so simple to make. I hope you'll try it! Ingredients: 2 cups of self-rising flour 3 tablespoons of shortening 3/4 cup of water Instructions: Add the self-rising flour and shortening together and mix with a fork until the mixture comes together in pea-sized shapes. In the center of the flour mixture, make a circled well. Add the water. Slowly mix the dry and wet ingredients together with your fingers until it comes together as a dough. Place the dough on a lightly floured countertop. You'll need to knead the dough for about five minutes, or until it becomes smooth. Once your dough is finished, cover it with a tea towel and allow it to rest for thirty-five minutes. Press the tor...

Homemade soup and chili crackers

Homemade soup and chili crackers I must confess, I really love homemade crackers, with or without a hearty bowl of soup or chili. I honestly enjoy munching on them more than potato chips or popcorn as a mid-morning and late-night snack. Yes, I do get the munchies while watching an occasional late-night movie! I have used several types of flour to make this cracker recipe. I will list each type that can be used in the list of ingredients below. Today I am using all-purpose flour. Ingredients: 3 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour; you can also use wheat flour, rice flour, oat flour, almond flour, or any other type of nut flour. The texture of the crackers will be somewhat different with each. 5 to 6 tablespoons of canola oil; you can also use softened butter and other types of cooking oil. 1 cup of water plus a little extra if needed 1 teaspoon of onion powder 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt 1 teaspoon of steak seasoning (optional) Optional ingredients that can be...

Homemade corn chips

Homemade corn chips Today, I made homemade corn chips because I was in the mood for Frito Pie. I used homemade seasoning salt in my recipe, but if you want to make yours with regular salt you most certainly can. The secret to creating really crispy corn chips is to roll them out super thin. The chips can be baked or fried. I will share how to prepare them both ways in the instructions below. Ingredients: 1 cup of finely ground yellow cornmeal 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt 1 teaspoon of onion powder 1/2 cup of water Canola oil, corn oil, or peanut oil to brush over the dough and to grease the baking tray, or 3 1/2 cups to 4 cups to fry the chips in a deep frying pan. Instructions: In a bowl, combine 1 cup of finely ground yellow cornmeal, 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well. Now, sprinkle a little bit of flour on your workspace and roll the dough out as thin as you can possibly get it. Sprinkle the top of the dough with flour or cornme...

Baked tortilla chips

Baked tortilla chips Baked tortilla chips have a better texture and flavor than most store-bought chips, and they're great to use while eating taco salads, nachos, guacamole dip, etc. because they don't break while you're dipping. That's so much more satisfying! Plus, you're in control of how much seasoning is added to your chips. I used two 10-inch flour tortillas when preparing these yummy baked chips, but you'll need to use a dozen tortillas if you're wanting to make a nice big bowl full. Ingredients: 2 (10-inch) soft-shell flour tortillas; use more depending on the amount you'll need. Steak seasoning and seasoning salt to sprinkle over both sides of the cut tortilla pieces (the amount depends on your taste). 2-4 tablespoons of melted butter or butter cooking spray to coat both sides of the cut tortilla pieces Instructions: Lay the flour tortillas on a cutting board, and cut them into triangular shapes (or any shape that you prefer) with a sharp knife...
