Country-ground beef and peppered gravy bowls
When it comes to a country supper, it doesn't get much better than this! Of course, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it, just like this homemade peppered gravy sticks to my ribs. Lol. In all seriousness, it's yummy! I hope you all will enjoy it!
Ingredients:
1 pound of ground beef, cooked
2 tablespoons of canola oil
1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
Ingredients for the biscuits:
2 cups of self-rising flour
3/4 cup to 1 cup of cold water or milk
1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of butter, lard, shortening, or bacon grease for the biscuit dough
Ingredients for the peppered gravy:
1/2 cup of canola oil
3/4 cup of self-rising flour
1 teaspoon of seasoning salt
1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
4 cups of milk
Instructions for browning the ground beef:
In a skillet, add 2 tablespoons of canola oil. Allow the oil to get hot over high heat. Then add 1 pound of ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper to the skillet. Brown the meat for about 12 minutes, or until done, and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Set aside.
Instructions for preparing the biscuits:
In a bowl, add 2 cups of self-rising flour and 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of butter, lard, shortening, or bacon grease to the biscuit dough. Cut the fat into the flour using a pastry cutter or a fork.
Once the two ingredients are well mixed together, add 3/4 cup to 1 cup of cold water or milk.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface, and cut the biscuits out with a biscuit cutter or the open end of a mason jar.
Lightly butter a baking pan, then transfer the cut biscuit dough to the pan. Transfer the pan to a 350-degree oven and bake for about 12 to 15 minutes. Set aside.
Instructions for preparing the peppered milk gravy:
In a saucepan or skillet, add 1/2 cup of canola oil and allow it to get hot.
Now, add 3/4 cup of self-rising flour, 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt, and 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper to a bowl. Slowly add 4 cups of milk to the flour mixture. Mix well with a wooden spoon.
Pour the peppered milk mixture into the pan of hot oil. Stir well and continuously until the gravy reaches the desired thickness.
To prepare the ground beef and gravy bowls:
Crumble one to two biscuits into the bottom of the bowls. Then add a couple of spoonfuls of the peppered gravy on top of the biscuits. Sprinkle a handful of the cooked ground beef over the top. Serve and enjoy!
