Homemade garlic fingers
If you're wondering what garlic fingers are, essentially they're breadsticks that are stuffed with butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan cheese. They're baked but can also be fried, and they're simply delicious served with a dipping sauce or with any type of Italian cuisine.
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups of self-rising flour plus extra to knead and roll the dough
1/4 cup of warm water plus extra if needed
4 tablespoons of melted butter
2-4 tablespoons of garlic powder, depending on your taste
1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese
Canola oil to grease the pan
Instructions:
In a bowl, add 1-1/2 cups of self-rising flour and 1/4 cup of warm water. Combine the ingredients, and then allow the dough to set for twenty minutes.
Now, sprinkle extra flour on your work surface and place your dough in the center of the flour. Knead the dough for a few minutes and add additional flour to make it workable. The dough should not be too sticky to work with at this point. Form it into a nice dough ball, then pat it down and begin rolling it out with your rolling pin. Sprinkle extra flour over the dough as needed, and roll it out into a thin square shape.
Once that's done, brush the top of the dough generously with softened or melted butter. Then sprinkle 2-4 tablespoons of garlic powder, depending on your taste, and 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning over the buttered surface.
Now, gently fold the sides of the dough in, overlapping each other. With your pastry roller, roll the dough gently. You'll repeat these steps six times, but each time rotate the dough so that each end will get folded to create several layers in the dough.
Then roll the dough back out into a flat square shape and sprinkle 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese over the top. Then fold the top and bottom sides of the dough inward, overlapping each other, and roll the dough out longwise.
On the last roll, you'll fold the dough so that when it's rolled out, it will be long and rectangular.
Using a knife, slice the dough into finger-width pieces. They will puff up once they start baking.
Grease a baking tray with canola oil and transfer the cut pieces of dough to the pan.
Place the baking tray in a 350-degree oven and bake your garlic fingers for about twelve to fifteen minutes. Serve with your favorite pizza sauce or dip, and enjoy!
Note:
I have used the original Bisquick mix to create my garlic fingers, and it works perfectly. Just use the same amount of the Bisquick mix as you would self-rising flour.
