Yummy, Southern-Style Deep Dish Pizza
This Southern-style pizza's dough does not need yeast to rise. In fact, the dough only takes about 5 minutes to prepare. Imagine a quick and easy way to create a mouthwatering homemade pizza without the need to wait for the dough to rise. It's simply fantastic!
Ingredients for the pizza crust:
2 cups of self-rising flour
2 1/2 cups of water
1 teaspoon of Splenda, or sugar
1 teaspoon of seasoning salt
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Peizza sauce (to be added on top of the pizza dough before baking)
Optional ingredients for the pizza toppings:
Diced onion
Minced garlic
Oregano
Basil
Italian seasoning
Smoked paprika
Chopped bell peppers
Chopped jalapeno peppers
Sliced banana peppers
Black olives
Sliced mushrooms
Canadian bacon
Pepperoni
Cooked Italian sausage
Anchovies
Shredded, cooked chicken
Cooked ground beef
Shredded cheese
Instructions:
Begin by combining 2 cups of self-rising flour, 2 1/2 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of Splenda or sugar, 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large bowl. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until a smooth dough is formed. The consistency should be pourable but not too runny.
Grease a deep dish pan or a large cast-iron skillet to prevent the dough from sticking. Transfer the pizza dough into the prepared pan, ensuring it is evenly spread.
Next, generously spread the pizza sauce over the dough, covering the entire surface. This will provide a flavorful base for your toppings.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and place the pan with the pizza crust inside. Bake for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown.
Once the pizza crust is cooked, carefully remove it from the oven. Now, it's time to get creative with your toppings. Add your favorite ingredients, such as diced onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, chopped bell peppers, chopped jalapeno peppers, sliced banana peppers, black olives, sliced mushrooms, Canadian bacon, pepperonis, cooked Italian sausage, anchovies, shredded, cooked chicken, and or cooked ground beef. Oh, and don't forget to add your favorite shredded cheese!
Then transfer your pizza back to the oven and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes.
Allow the pizza to cool for about 10 minutes before cutting. Then serve and enjoy!
Note:
Prior to baking the pizza dough, I applied my yummy homemade pizza sauce, ensuring an even distribution across the surface. To enhance the flavor, I sprinkled a touch of extra garlic powder.
As for the toppings, I opted for succulent caramelized diced onions, vibrant peppers, and thinly sliced mushrooms. I also added two layers of pepperoni and a blend of feta and cheddar cheese.
I would also like to note that the size of the pan you use will determine the thickness of your crust. It is important to consider this, as the pizza dough will increase in thickness during the baking process.
